Don't you just love platform policy changes?
Albeit, that's just one reason for my lack of posting over the past nine months. There were A-Level exams, a house move, driving lessons, job searches and other personal circumstances that meant time had to be dedicated to other things, but I was actually ready to start posting again wholeheartedly over four months again.
And then the Wix Policy Change struck.
Unless I simply never noticed this before, there is a new (well, as of a few months again anyway) policy which means that if you want to post more than 500 paltry megabytes of images (I've used 1.1Gb in my time here), you have to pay to upgrade a plan. Upgrade the plan on a monthly basis, and you still don't get the kind of storage I need. It also turns out that because I use high-quality images for my reviews and because I had to use Wix to build my coursework blog for Media Studies, one of my three A-Levels (English Literature, English Language and Media), I was way, WAY over the storage limit when they decided to spring this lovely new paid plan into action. So, as it stands I can't upload any more photos, which is just not viable for the way I work. I could reclaim space by deleting old images, but then my articles would be missing the all-important snapshots of the products I'm discussing!
Fear not! You think I'd quit that easily? I really miss posting about my stationery finds and I've still been typing up articles on my typewriter ready for a comeback. But I've figured out I'll need to purchase a domain name and hosting servers at least, which will be a monthly cost. It'll probably be some description of Wordpress, since the free plans don't offer enough storage for a long-term blog, which KraftyCats is. I've first of all got to figure out what platforms I go with, as the world of the Internet is fraught with confusion and quite frankly it's very easy to get ripped off. Wix has been a free, easy solution up to now but alas, no more.
Once I've chosen the right platforms, I'll have to buy the aforementioned domain names and hosting servers, design a website afresh (it will still be named KraftyCats), and attempt to migrate all my existing posts, which i should hopefully be able to do through Wix or a third-party app. Finally, I'll start posting new content again while getting my SEO for the new website sorted out so I can be found easily in search engines easily if you type in 'KraftyCats'.
I'm so sorry for the complete post defecit - I've missed KraftyCats too! I don't know how long this process will take but I'm hoping I can find an inexpensive but solid solution that won't try any funny stuff in the future.
Stay tuned for further updates! Also, comment below if you'd still like to hear my stationery musings in the meantime, even without images.
