Review: Garcia-Deschacht Pendant Nib 'Filigree'

So it's not technically stationery...

However, if you're like me and you adore jewellery as well as fountain pens, you'll be delighted! I haven't been able to find many pendants related to my stationery obsession, but Garcia-Deschacht have obligingly filled a gap in the market with their new line of jewellery.

The one I'll be reviewing today is 'Filigree'. Handcrafted from 925 silver, it's certainly something beautiful and unique.

The pendant arrives in a soft velvet pouch (inside the shipping packaging, of course), which protects it on its journey to its new home. I do like jewellery to arrive in a nice box, but the pouch is perfectly functional and can also be used to hold other things, so it doesn't matter.

As soon as you open the pouch, you see the pendant itself - beautifully shiny, adorned with a delicate pattern chiselled out of the shining silver. Note that the pendant does not come with a chain, so you'll need to buy one separately or use one you already have.

I was immediately struck by the lovely filigree. You can tell that it is handmade, as if you look closely you can see the marks of the tools on the back, and a few figures that have been chiselled on. Also, the gaps in the silver aren't all exactly the same size, as they would be if they were churned out by a machine.

There were a few small dark patches on the back and inside the patterning. Silver does tarnish over time and can be cleaned to return it to its best. Since I already had some silver cleaner in a cupboard, I decided to clean it.

Wow.

The pictures can't do the immense and astonishing shininess of this pendant justice. It looks like it is producing its own light! The dark spots have disappeared.

I love that the pendant doesn't look machine-made. The very slightly uneven inside edges lets you know that it has been made by human hands, which makes it feel more warm and personal than mass-produced jewellery.

Overall, it's a gorgeous and unique pendant, and I really can't find any faults. It's perfect for jewellery and stationery lovers alike!
