Review: Yak Leather Three Pen Case - Green

Updated: Jul 14, 2022

Leather pen cases are a valuable addition to any stationery addict's coollection. They're not for everyone as they are made from the hide of an animal; there are good substitutes if you look hard enough, but a good leather product made from sustainably sourced materials (I firmly believe that the meat of the animal shouldn't be wasted) is a joy and an heirloom.

They can be pricy though, which is where a company like Yak Leather comes in. For a relatively low price tag, they sell pen cases to keep your treasured writing instruments safe and protected from bumps and scuffs.

A three pen case is perfect for me - three pens seems like a reasonable number to carry on a daily basis and ensures that if one runs dry, I have two more I can use.

The first thing I noticed about the case is that it is very, very solid. I mean extremely solid. The leather is roughly 2.5mm thick, and the stitching looks very strong. There aren't any loose ends of thread poking out anywhere, nor are there any large, ugly knots. The edges are very smoothly finished and its whole appearance is sleek and sophisticated.

A great feature of this case is the removeable insert. This allows you to easily remove all three pens at once. The quality of the insert matches the rest of the case.

There's another small detail that I like - these little thin, flat sections accommodate pen clips!

The case is very smooth inside, so you don't need to worry about any scratches. The inserts also have leather dividers so pens don't bump together.

It is secured by a simple flap and loop. That's probably not the technical term, but then again, I don't think the clicky mechanism in a ballpoint is called a button.

I call it that anyway, there's no stopping me! Though if anybody knows the correct name for that button, please do share...

Anyway, you simple slide the flap under the loop and there's no chance of your pens falling out!

For a relatively small price tag, you get a very good quality pen case hat should serve you for many years to come!
